Abstract

Aqueous phase synthesis of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were performed and used as optical probes for biomolecule detection. The present work aimed at detection of Lactate by using QDs in presence of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme. Lactate is important biomolecule in food industry wherein it acts as an indicator of product quality and also is an indicator of various pathological states. Nanoparticle-biomolecule interactions like Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) with NADH formed by LDH activity were exploited for sensitive detection of lactate. Thus Quantum dots were used as optical probes for lactate detection by using enzyme (LDH of 0.2U) and cofactors (NAD+) in which the sensitivity of detection is 100pg/mL with R2 =0.95, retaining its specificity. Thus nanoparticles based biosensing protocol for lactate detection was developed with good selectivity and sensitivity of nanoparticles for enzymatic reaction.
