Abstract
Microalgae are unicellular, photosynthetic organisms that contribute 45% of the organic carbon fixation on earth. This higher photosynthetic efficiency attributed to the exploitation of value added products from microalgae. Dunaliella salina is a halotolerant marine microalga, known for the accumulation of β-carotene. The β- carotene hydroxylase from the chlorophycean microalga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was introduced into the genome of the D. salina by Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation.
