Additional Information: | Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE) is a new separation technique to extract the active ingredients or to remove the unwanted principles from the material using fluids in supercritical phase. Extraction with CO2 usually takes place at low temperatures (35°C to 50°C), and in an inert atmosphere, whereby both thermal as well as oxidative degradations are prevented. The experiment was conducted at three different pressures 200, 300, and 400 bars and at three different temperatures, 40, 50, and 60degree C. Results indicated that supercritical CO2 could be successfully utilized for the extraction of capsaicinoids and carotenoids from capsicum habanero. As SCEF process is found to be more efficient than the conventional extraction process other than capsaicinoids, carotenoids, it can be applied for extraction of other bioactive compounds (Tocopherols) present in habanero. The extracted compounds furtherly can be used for Enzyme derivations, Formulations, Study of anti-inflammatory activity, Study of anti carcinogenic activity and Study of Provitamin -A activity. |
