Abstract

study of ascorbic acid osazones by spectroscopic methods shows that they are y-lactones, not Mactones as claimed recently. It is found that they mutarotate in solution. Mutarotation involves geometric isomerization of the hydrazone moieties and replacement of one chelate system by another. The path for isomerization is discussed.
