Abstract

Coconut meals, prepared by the Krauss Maffei process and by expeller press, were treated with Meicelase-P, a cellulase preparation from Trichoderma viride. After incubation for 20 or 120 h at 40 degree C under stationary or shaking conditions, the percentage decomposition of fibre and the amount of extractable protein in the meals were measured. Shaking had a beneficial effect both on the decomposition of the fibre and on the protein extraction. The results showed that Meicelase-P was capable of degrading the fibre in coconut meal.
