Abstract
Pair-fed rats were given for 6 weeks a diet containing 9% protein as casein with or without 8% husk of ragi (finger millet). The feed efficiency ratio was 0.19 and 0.28, respectively. Growth and nitrogen retention were also better and protein content in carcass and liver greater with ragi husk in the diet. The growth response of rats given ragi husk seemed to increase with the N content of husk.
