Abstract
Two supplementary foods hased on blends of roasted Ragi, Sorghum, Wheat, Bengalgram flour, Peanut flour, Jaggery (orude sugar), hydrogenated fat and fortified witb calcium salts and vitamins have been prepared for preschool and school children. The foods contain aboαt l6 gas of proteins and 388 KCals for 100 gms of the food. The protein efficiency ratios of the blends ranged frcm 2.1-2.3, as compared witb 2.5 for casein. A daily suppleaent of 55 gms of the food wlll provide about 200 KCals, 9 gms proteins and balf the daily requirements calcium vitamin A, thiamine and riboflavin. Tbe blends are highly acceptable to children and satisfy tbe requirements of nutritious food supplements.
