Abstract

The use of triphenyltetrazolium chloride as a redox indicator for the quantitative determination of succinic dehydrogenase activity of liver was first suggested by Kun and Abood 1. They reported that the tetrazolium method possessed the following advantages over the Thunberg methylene blue technique~: (a) the system does not require anaerobic conditions and (b) the enzyme activity can be followed quantitatively by colorimetric measurements. More recently, Glock and Tensen3 used p-pl-diphenylenebis-z( 3, s-diphenyltetrazolium chloride) for determining the succinic dehydrogenase activity of plant tisSUes. In the present investigation the use of triphenyltetrazolium bromide for determining lactic, glutamic, butyric and choline dehydroge- - nase activities of liver has been studied. A preliminary account of the results are reported in this communication.
