Abstract

Iron filings in tea may be determined by magnetic, colorimetric and gravimetric methods. Different values were obtained by different methods. An attempt was made to compare different methods i.e. (i) magnetic separation, (ii) carbon tetrachloride separation, (iii) colorimetry, and (iv) carbon tetrachloride separation followed by colorimetry; a simple, reliable and accurate method was used for standardization. Results show that (i) is simple and rapid giving reproducible results. % recovery of iron filings from various tea samples ranged from 93.3 to 97.3.
