Additional Information: | Capsicum is one of the high value crops. It is sensitive to ethylene. By packing Capsicum with suitable ethylene scavengers, its loss was prevented to greater extent during transportation and storage. Capsicum when packed in LDPE bags along with the ethylene scavengers like brick and KMnO4 didn’t show the good results. But when packed in PVC trays and perforated LDPE bags results were very much satisfying. Capsicum stored in PVC trays along with KMnO4 showed a slight decrease in weight, acidity, tannin, ascorbic acid, color but sight increase in 0Brix even after 4 weeks of storage at 140C. At room temperature samples got spoiled only after 2 weeks of storage while control was spoiled after one week of storage in each case. In perforated LDPE bags Capsicum didn’t get spoiled after 4 weeks but loss in weight, ascorbic acid, tannin, acidity was much more. Therefore PVC trays with KMnO4 as scavenger at 140C was found to be effective in preventing the loss of Capsicum during storage for a period of 25 to 28 days. In some cases perforated LDPE bags can be used, if it is not meant for long term storage that is around 10 to 12 days. |
