Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Thesis (Masters)
Additional Information:
The concept of antisense RNA and RNAi is quite new and requires lot of research work. However, much basic work has already been undertaken and continuing. These genes silencing mechanism can act both as +ve and/or – ve regulator, so can be used to up regulate or down regulate the activity of desired genes. It has successfully been employed in many therapeutic field e.g.cancer therapy, against viral diseases etc.In the case of food, this method can help in the improvement of the quality of raw material (agricultural commodities) at the very first level of food processing. Apart from raw material improvement this technique can easily fulfill many other requirements of food processing operations through modifications of microbes e.g. flavor, colors, enzymes, edible plastics and many more. Hence, antisense RNA and RNA interference technology has tremendous application in agriculture, food, medicine, pharmaceutical industries etc.
