Additional Information: | <p align="justify">The present investigation were conducted to study physical and chemical changes in the litchi fruits treated with different post harvest treatments packed in different modified atmosphere packages (MAP) during low temperature (LT) storage conditions. An attempt has been made to optimize the post harvest treatments for shelf life extension and maintaining quality during LT storage and for control of pericarp browning in fresh litchi fruits. The results indicate the use of barrier packaging systems such as modified atmosphere packaging with LDPE bags which is characterized for higher CO2/O2 permeability could conceivably more effectively extended the shelf life of litchi fruits treated with SO2 fumigation followed by acid dip treatment during low temperature storage conditions up to 21 days and effectively controlled pericarp browning and by retaining the anthocyanin pigments in the pericarp by preventing its degradation by acid dip treatment and ultimately improved the marketability of fresh litchi fruits.</p> |
