Abstract

THE pr?fo~.na influence of nutrition ?~ the inte~rity aJ?-d function of tbe llver cells became apparem III early observatIOns on the liver dUring starvation. It is, however, only during the past 10 O'r 15 years, that the role of specific nutritional deficiencies .in oausing 1esions of· pathological importance has been demonstrated. The subject is thus now one of major interest in pathology and nutrition. The relevant literature is too vast for adequate treatment in a single review. Therefore, .the salient developments in the field, which constitute one of the notable advances in modern medicine, will be briefly summarised in the present article.
