Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: In this project a system was developed for quality assessment of tea using Amperometric Detection method and implemented using the software 8051 microcontroller. Tea biosensor combines the selectivity of biology with the processing power of modern microelectronics and optoelectronics, which is used for assessing the quality of tea. The biosensor is a new analytical tool with major applications in many fields. Tea Biosensor helps to evaluate the product and establish conditions for processing and quality control. For scientific applications and studies quantitative measurement is required. It is basically the chemical analysis of the different constituents in the product. Quality is major factor, which decides the price of tea. Quality assessment of tea requires technologies, which are rapid and accurate. Tea Biosensor is an Instrument-based method of assessing quality. Quantitative method is based on the percentage of polyphenol oxidation where color of extract, astringent and the flavor of tea depend mainly on polyphenol. The main object is to determine percentage of polyphenol. The purpose of a chemical sensor is to provide real-time reliable information about the chemical composition of its surrounding environment. Ideally such a system is capable of responding continuously. Such devices consist of a transduction element covered with a biological or chemical recognition layer.
