Abstract

In the previous publication, Subrahmanyan et al. (I) reported that replacement of whole wheat flour, which formed 50% of the cereals in a poor Indian diet, by pawhtic atta (composed of a blend of 75 parts of whole wheat flour, 17 parts of tapioca flour and 8 parts of groundnut flour) for a period of 3 months did not adversely affect the general health, growth and nutritional status of children. It was at the same time considered necessary to study the effect of such replace. ment on the retention of nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus in children. The results of these studies are reported in this communication.
