Abstract
The yield of HCCH depends on tho conditions employed during the manufacture, An attempt is made on various factors such as time Of chlorination, effect of temperature, addition of catalysts and solvents influencing the yield of HCCH during the pbotochlorination of benzene, Studies on the effec of time of chlorination revealed that the quantity of HcCH increased as the time of chlorination increased, Benzene was cooled to different temperatures and HCCH samples were prepared. ne results revealed that the yield of HCCH decreased as the temperature was reduced. Photochlorination of benzene was carried out in the presence of different catalysts and the investigations revealed that the maximum yield of HCCH was obtained when aluminium chloride was used as a catalyst during the preparation. Benzene was diluted with various solvents like carbontetrachloride, chloroform, methylene Chloride. ethylene dichloride and ethyl acetate in different ratios and HCCH samples were prepared. The maximum )field of HCCH was very poor when ethyl acetate was used as a diluent during the photoChlorination of benzene.
