Abstract
Pulp or sludge left over in the clarification of lime juice, for cordial making, has under conditions existing in the factories in India, been found to contain 0.8 to 4.0 per cent lime oil. This has been recovered quanti.tatively, by steam distillation. Besides the oil, juice corresponding to about 70 to 77 per cent of the total citric acid present in the pulp, can be easily recovered partly before and partly after the distillation. The oil has been found to be quite suitable for use as a flavouring material and the citric acid liquors for use in the preparation of lime squash and cordial as well as citric acid and citrates.
