Abstract

The cellophane-over-agar plate method using brain heart infusion agar as the basal medium has been found suitable for obtaining satisfactory yields of enterotoxins from staphylococcal cultures. Among the serological methods, radioimmunoassay (RIA) and ELISA are highly sensitive and give rapid and accurate results. However, since the facilities for RIA and ELISA are sophisticated and may not be readily available in most laboratories, the optimal sensitivity plate method can be used routinely for detection of staphylococcal enterotoxins.
