Abstract

Commercial groundnut oil was subjected to centrifugal force ranging from 10 000 to 218 000 g to isolate the aflatoxin. The suspended materials in the oil, which contained about 60-65% of the aflatoxin, were sedimented at 40 000 g. Filtration with membrane filter, sintered glass and filter paper could separate 30-50% of the toxin in the oil. Use of activated Fullers' earth as an adsorbent at 2% level and centrifugation at 10 000 g sedimented nearly 92.5% of the aflatoxin, thereby indicating its suitability for commercial application.
