Abstract

Studies were made to determine the optimum temperatures for storage of avocado and coccinia. It was found that avocados could be successfully stored for 30-35 days, with minimal physiological weight loss and spoilage, at 42-45 degree F. At temperatures below this avocados tended to become discoloured internally and fail to soften when removed after storage; and at temperatures greater than 55 degree F they were susceptible to anthracnose. The optimum temperature for storage of coccinia was found to be 35-38 degree F; they can be economically stored for 20 days. At temperatures below this they developed cold injury and at higher temperatures the fruit ripened much earlier.
