Abstract
A comparative study was made of production of amino acid excreting mutants of Micrococcus glutamicus by (i) addition of 50, 100, 500 and 1000 mug/ml solutions of N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine to M. glutamicus suspended in minimal salts medium (1 x 10-7 cells/ml); (ii) exposure of 7 ml cell suspension in minimal salts medium in a Petriplate to UV irradiation (222-230 lambda; 125 W Hanovia lamp; 45 cm distance); (iii) exposure of cell suspension to -6-0Co (dosage 130 krad). It is concluded that (i) produces a more efficient mutagen than (ii) or (iii).
