Abstract
750 samples of Areca catechu fruits from 7 growing regions, harvested at different maturities and at different periods of the year, were examined for their microbial flora. The effect of different surface cleaning treatments on the surface microbes was investigated. Storage in a moist chamber produced mainly fungi, whilst samples incubated in test tubes produced mainly bacteria. All results are given.
