Abstract

Composition of the steam distilled volatile oil of large cardamom (Amomum subulatum Roxb.) was analysed by GC MS. Oxygenated monoterpenes predominated in the oil (75.2%) followed by monoterpene hydrocarbons (16.3%) and sesquiterpenes (6.3%). Predominant compounds included 1,8-cineole (61.3%), alpha-terpineol, alpha- and beta-pinene and allo-aromadendrene. 25 compounds including alpha-thujene were identified in the oil for the 1st time. Terpinyl acetate, the major constituent of small cardomom oil, was not detected. [From En summ.]
