Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The study of pesticide residues has been done extensively previously by many individuals. Pesticide residue analysis is an important part in food processing. The objective of the study was to check the sensitivity of various pesticide residues in spectrophotometry for estimation and for the purpose of plotting standard graphs compared to the concentration. These tests also include spectrum analysis of the various pesticides to check their maximum absorbance wavelengths. In the end tests were done to check the efficacy of the procedures meant for the extraction of pesticides from food samples. Several required modifications to the process were found out for better results. The compounds showed good solubility in organic solvents and were used for the generation of standard concentration curves. The extraction was done after spiking different vegetable samples with the pesticide samples and the amount recovered were found by comparing to standard graphs by reading in a U.V spectrophotometer. The standard curve showed good linearity. The extraction of the residues showed good extraction rates of 60% to 88% for the respective samples, showing the efficiency of the method.
