Additional Information: | Phosphine fumigant influenced the mortality response of eggs of T. castaneum. The mortality response increased when the concentration increased. At extended exposure periods, low concentration of phosphine produced 100% kill in eggs. This is evidenced by achieving 100% kill of eggs at 0.25mg/l for 7 days exposure. Similarly, the egg hatch and adult emergence were significantly influenced by the concentration of phosphine and extended exposure periods, leading to more percent reduction in adult emergence. The same trends of increased mortality have been observed on larvae and pupae of T. castaneum. The results emphasize the need for longer exposures to complete kill of insect/ life stages. The study has also revealed that it is not always true that the active stages are more susceptible to phosphine than inactive or sedentary stages of insects. |
