Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The current investigation was aimed at studying the prevalence of siderophores in some bacterial and fungal species. Bacterial species used in the study Pseudomonas nascens, Pediococcus acidilactici and Lactobacillus plantarum did not produce siderophores under the experimental conditions. Siderophores were detected in six of the eight Aspergillus species namely Aspergillus ochraceous, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus clavatus, Aspergillus japonicus, Aspergillus flavus indicating siderophore production. Aspergillus terreus and Aspergillus sydowii showed a negative reaction. The growth, pH changes, and production of siderophores as a function of incubation period were recorded and Aspergillus flavus was found to produce as high as 7216.6 μg/ml. The siderophores detected were all of hydroxamate nature and similar to the standard desferrioxamine hydroxamate as shown by the UV spectrum and TLC analysis. Antimicrobial activity could not be detected for any of the siderophores tested.
