Additional Information: | Genetic transformation of Solanum melongena has been obtained using Agrobacterium tumefaciens harbouring pCAMBIA 1304. GUS histochemical assay was visualized in the transformants and PCR analysis of the transformants showed the presence of the hptII gene (~400bp) and the presence of CaMV promoter gene (~ 300bp). Capsicum being recalcitrant showed slower growth and is still in the kanamycin selection media. Further studies in this regard for analysis of the transformants need to be carried out further. Genetic transformation studies of both Solanum melongena and Capsicum sp could be carried out to improve the pre harvest and post harvest traits in both the species. |
