Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: Moringa leaves could be use as a nutritious food to reduce hunger and fight mal nutrition in our country. Since all part of the Moringa is edible and has several properties to combat mal nutrition it is a valuable tool in improving nutrition. Experts agree that the long-term solution to malnutrition is the use of foods rich in the essential nutrients often lacking in people's diets. In our study we have tried to measure the nutrition content especially Carotenoid in the hybrid variety PKM1. PKM 1 is widely used to grow due to its short period to yield .and it can be grown in a small area, the leaves are of nutrition value and they contain most of the carotenoids in them which help in the protection for malnutrition in people. However the nutrition value of this hybrid was not analyzed. Hence a study was carried out to analyze its antioxidant and Carotenoid content in mature and tender leaves and compare its content to Hibiscus cannabinus which is also used as a vegetable in some parts of India.
