Additional Information: | In recent years, the use of synthetic compounds in drug formulations is restricted due to their deleterious impacts and side effects on human health with their consumption. These negative impacts on usage of synthetic drugs have made the Pharmacologists to focus on utilizing the plant compounds in the drug formulations in place of synthetic compounds. Plants have the ability to cure wide range of diseases. The healing properties in plants are attributed to the compounds present in them called as Bioactive compounds. Indian Gooseberry is a fruit which is considered in Ayurveda as the most promising fruit. Over years, this fruit has been used to cure many diseases. Thus, the present study focuses on the isolation of bioactive compounds from Indian Gooseberry. A bioactivity (antioxidant and antibacterial activity) guided fractionation and purification was followed in the study. The HPLC analysis for spectra of phenolics in fractions with potential antioxidant and antibacterial activity showed the presence of 8 Phenolic compounds, viz. Gallic acid, Coumaric acid, Catechin, Ferulic acid, Caffeic acid, Syringic acid, Chlorogenic acid and Cinnamic acid. Among these 8 phenolic acids, the presence of Syringic acid in the acetone extract of Indian Gooseberry was detected for the first time. |
