Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: Genetic algorithm (GA) is a strong tool for prediction of desired functions and their optimization. Though there is a limited application in the area of food, scope exists to apply the concept of GA in the complex food system. A GA program has been developed using MATLAB based on neural network (NN) model and object oriented programming (OOP). The program possesses flexibility in number of generations, crossover rate, mutation probability and number of population strings. As a case study, three independent variables along with two response or target functions have been considered; one of the response functions is to be maximized while the other needs minimization. Latter, the system was optimized to obtain the levels of these three independent variables. It is concluded that GA is a useful method to solve complex biological systems like food.
