Abstract

In the present study Isolation and induction of caffeine degrading bacteria was carried out. 18 strains of bacteria were isolated among them TBD3 was capable of growing on caffeine agar media (CAM) containing 0.5 % caffeine as sole source of carbon and nitrogen. The TBD3 was capable of degrading 90% of caffeine in the caffeine sucrose liquid (CSL) media. Bacterial strain TBD3 was induced using higher concentration of caffeine i.e. 5g/l in Caffeine liquid medium (CLM) and caffeine sucrose media (CSL). The biotransformed product of Caffeine was determined by analytical methods such as thin layer Chromatography (TLC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Also the results were confirmed by comparing with the retention time of the standards.
