Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: A growing amount of research over the past decade has been directed towards the development of Biosensors for various applications such as food analysis, pharmaceuticals, medical applications etc. Presently, the food industries are facing the problem in detecting the quality of foods using highly sophisticated instruments which is more expensive and time consuming. In order to overcome the above mentioned problems, it is proposed to develop a cost effective and portable biosensor instrument to assess the quality of foods and beverages. Among the commodities of foods, the consumption of tea is next to water which is commonly available beverage to the people. There is a growing awareness to assess the quality of tea, which brought the importance of developing the biosensor based quality assessment which is a scientific method to witness the quality. In order to evaluate the quality of tea by sensory based which is a subjective method can be overcome by advanced technique like biosensor. This method facilitate rapid, accurate and reliable estimation of specific analyte which is very important for efficient process and environment monitoring, medical applications etc. Biosensors based automated system aims at proving a user friendly system for polyphenol detection which is microcontroller based where in, the microcontroller provides all the functions necessary to carry out the process like data acquisition. The control system involves data acquisition, signal processing using précised high gain operational amplifier ,.analog to digital converter and input (6 membrane keys) and output devices (2X16 LCD). Rapid data handling and the automation of analysis ensures precise detection with high sensitivity and repeatability. Thus the system reduces the analysis time and eliminates errors due to sampling, which would be otherwise present in conventional system .
