Abstract

A new thin-layer chromatographic me/hod for the detection of carbaryl (I-ruiphthyl N-methyl carbamate), carbofuran (2,3.dihydro-2, 2-dimethyl.7-benzofiJr. anyl methyl carbamate) and baygon r-isopropoxyphenyl N-merhyl carbamate) from vegetables was developed using 4:4-diaminodiphenyl su/phone as a chromogenic reagent and benzene-acetone as developing solvent. The Rfvalues in this system were 0.25, 0.23, and 0.20 for carbaryl. carbofuran and blygon, respectively. The method is sensitive upto 0.05 I'g ofcarbaryl. carbofuran and baygon and enables to detect as low as 0.02 ppm of these imecticide residues from vegetables.
