Abstract
Aspartate, alanine and lenclne aminotransferase activities were detected in both mitochondrial and supernatant fractions of Corcyra cephalonica lanai extracts. Agar gel electropheretic studies on the aspartate aminotransferase activity of the insect showed the presence of a major cationic mitochondrial isoenzyme and an anionic superlatant Isoenzyme. The insect haemolymph contained an anionic aspartate aminotransferase. Polyacrylamide gel electro· phoresis has confirmed the differences in the electrophoretic mobilities of the mitochondrial and supernatant fractions. The pH optimum of the mitoChondrial isoenzyme was broad (6.5-8.5) and that of the supernatant enzyme sharp (7,5).
