Abstract

The economic progress of India is related to the progressive development of rural India. The policies of Government of India have led to decentralized planning leading to the self governance at grass roots like village panchayats, zilla parishads and others. The potential for progress lies in food sector. It is here that the potential available with the Rural Communities are to be tapped to achieve this goal. Often, the rural women occupy a forefront place when it comes to food processing. Funds are being channelized in this direction, so that proper training is imparted in areas of food technology to women in rural areas who can bring in a progressive change to either community development or self-employment. Besides government bodies, several NGOs are also involved in this economic improvement programmes for rural women. In this background, it is very appropriate for Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) to impart training programmes in those technologies, which are relevant to the Society and offer ample opportunities to achieve economic progress. Often, there have been good interactions between CFTRI and various other local bodies to achieve this goal. It is always ideal to have small training programmes oriented towards demonstrations of technologies that have a traditional bearing and success to the Society.
