Abstract
2. The daily intakes of invisible fat (computed from dietary data and bound lipid content of foodstuffs) in average diets in the different regions of India ranged from 16 to 24 g. The daily intake of visible fat was between 17 and 26 g. Cereals and pulses contributed 50 to 80% of the invisible fat. Intake of invisible fat was dependent on income. Even the poorest of Indian diets, providing 1000 to 1300 kcal with little or no visible fat, still contained 10 g invisible fat. The fat intake of infants and children is discussed.
