Additional Information: |
Jatropha curcas is considered a potential source of biodiesel. The seed contains 30-32% protein and 60-66% lipid. The use of the oil for edible purpose or pressed cake as food or animal feed is limited due to the presence of toxic and antinutritional compounds, such as phorbol esters, phytate, saponins, trypsin inhibitors, tannins and lectins. In the present study, attempts have been made to reduce the antinutrients by detoxification methods which have the potential to be used on a large scale and be economical such as roasting, autoclaving, soaking cum boiling and boiling with alkali. The results were compared with those of the control J. curcas meal sample.
|
