Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: Moringa oleifera is an important plant with much nutritional value yet to be explored. The in vitro propagation of the plant was done in MS media by incorporating several growth hormones alone as well in combination .It was found that BAP alone induced multiple shooting, while NAA induced rooting. When a combination of these was used it was still found to cause shoot induction only. Meanwhile the presence of IAA caused callus induction but lower concentration of IAA was found to induce rooting. Elicitation of the plant was done to analyze the level of various secondary metabolites and different elicitors used were salicylic acid ,methyljasmonate and chitosan. After elicitation the carotenoid and tocopherol content in the leaves of PKM1 variety of M.oleiferawas analysed using HPLC. The leaf extract was collected from the treated plant in different time period and the increment in secondary metabolite level was done. It was found that except for CMC50, other elicitors were found to be effective in enhancing the level by stimulating various associative metabolic pathways through molecular mechanism. The technique of elicitation could be done to enhance the nutrition content of the plant and could be used in food industry. The anti oxidant capacity of the PKM1 variety of plant was analysed by various method as DPPH radical scavenging assay, lipid peroxidation assay and DNA protection assay and it was found to possess potent antioxidant property.
