Abstract
The rapid increase in the use of pesticides has lead to contamination of food grains, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, agricultural land, drinking water, and the living environment as a whole. As a preventive measure the use of "safer" pesticides can be practiced. The existing methods do not permit to identify a "safe" chemical because non_target safety, cost factor, mammalian safety. Protective effect on beneficial insects are not taken into account. Considering these properties aiongwith pesticidal toxicity to target species, we have computed and determined rating for pesticide suitability. Using this "Model". PSR of 50 commonly used pesticides have heen prepared. Perusal of the PSR, instantly indicates its advantage$ in identifyjng a "safe" pesticide for use in the environment and merit of PSR to serve as a ready reconer for decision making.
