Abstract

Food safety is a major concern for humans due to incipient contaminants and toxins in food chain. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a food packaging contaminant classified as an endocrine disrupting compound. It leaches/migrates from various food packaging and handling materials to foods and water. It is reported to disrupt cell function at 0.23 ng/L and is also linked to reproductive, metabolic, and thyroid problems. Hence, detection, screening and removal of BPA in food samples is an important issue. Rapid, sensitive and onsite detection techniques along with reusable, selective adsorbents are preferred over conventional analytical and separation techniques.
