Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The scope and importance of sensors in contemporary food industry is immense and still growing. Sensor in particular is any device that analyses a sample for a given parameter with respect to time. Applications of moisture sensors in a variety of disciplines including food industry. Demand of sensitivity, specificity, speed and accuracy of analytical measurements have simulated considerable interest in developing moisture sensors as diagnostic tools in technology. One of the most widely measured phenomena in the process control environment is moisture. Typically, a data acquisition system conditions the analog signal from the moisture sensor, making the analog translation of the moisture usable in the digital domain. Moisture is usually digitized through an A/D conversion and the value obtained is in the form of current. The signal obtained is a weak signal and it contains noise, to strengthen this signal scaling is done using the amplifier and filters remove noise. This current is fed to a signal conditioning board consisting of current to voltage converter and amplifier. The output of the conditioning circuit is fed to micro-controller chip ATMEGA8535 where analog to digital conversion takes place. The digital value of moisture is compared with the set value and depending on the calibration, solenoid valve will spray or dc motor will run. This digital value is then displays it on the LCD. The necessary software for developing the system is done by ATMEGA8535 microcontroller. The software facilitates data acquisition, data processing, storage and calibration. The system has Atmel ATMEGA8535 micro-controller, 10-bit A/D converter for conversion of signal from analog to digital, LCD for displaying the digital data.
