Additional Information: | Rhizophora mucronata (mangroove) species reportedly possess many biological and pharmacological applications. The present study illustrated the methodologies for the preparation of the various solvent extracts and scope on the exploration of the biological activity viz., Radical scavenging activity (RSA). Initially, the fresh leaves of R. mucronata (moisture content, 70%) were cut into pieces and extracted with methanol in a Soxhlet apparatus which gave 15.3 % yield. This was further fractionated by impregnating with silica gel and subjected to Soxhlet extraction using petroleum ether (60-80), Chloroform, acetone and methanol which gave 0.46%, 0.58%, 2.54% and 9.75% ( on fresh weight basis) of the extracts respectively. Results showed that acetone extract has the potential activity of more than 90% when compared to the other solvent extracts. |
