Additional Information: | The phenolic content and antioxidant activities of ethyl acetate, acetone and methanol extracts from the flowers of Peltophorum ferrugineum were in the order of acetone > methanol >ethyl acetate as assayed through three different in vitro assay methods. The acetone extract was chosen for the stabilization of sunflower oil in accelerated storage condition because of its highest phenolic content and antioxidant activity. In the present study acetone extract was found to prevent the oxidation of sunflower oil in accelerated storage condition in comparison with BHA.HPLC analyses of the extracts showed the presence of gallic acid in ethyl acetate extract, ferulic acid and catechin in methanol extract from the flower of Peltophorum ferrugineum and confirmed with LC-MS study. The presence of an unidentified but separated compound was found in acetone and methanol extract. Further studies are warranted for the identification of other individual phenolic compounds in these extracts and in vivo and toxicological studies are required for their possible use as nutraceutical and food biopreservative as antioxidants. |
