Abstract

One hundred and sixty two samples of groundnut-based snack products (sweet and spiced), collected from local shops, were analyzed for aflatoxin contamination. A large number of the samples (31%) were found to be contaminated with 2-1500 ppb aflatoxin Br About 18% samples carried aflatoxin B; beyond the permissible limit of 30 ppb. Aflatoxin B2 was present along with aflatoxin B, in 12% of the samples. Only one sample of spiced groundnuts was found to be contaminated with all the four aflatoxins i.e., B1 B2 G1 and G2.
