Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: The present investigation was carried out to screen pentose utilizing yeast for bioethanol production of the cultures isolated from food industries. Nine strains were selected and the cultures were tested for their efficiency to utilize both hexose and pentose sugars for the production of ethanol. Ethanol productivity was compared with cane Molasses as it is the most abundantly used feedstock for ethanol production throughout the world. Ethanol production from Molasses was not as high as compared to glucose. As ethanol is a secondary metabolite, xylose utilization required longer period of time for biomass build-up than in Hexose sugars. The present work emphasizes the need to screen a larger no. of microorganisms for ethanol production and their genomic analysis for pentose sugar utilization and gives an insight of the ability of microorganisms to utilize both hexose and pentose sugars.
Uncontrolled Keywords: bioethanol production Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast xylose
