Abstract

Seeds of Ocimum Sanctum, popularly called Tulsi in India, were found effective in the control of mosquito larvae. In water, the seeds exude a mucilaginous substance to which larvae become attached firmly, through the mouth parts, and die. One kilogram of Tulsi seed has the capacity to bind 3-4 million 4th instar larvae of Culex faligens. The method maybe effective for control in small tanks, ponds and ditches.
