Abstract

The effect of different types of clay on the germination of seed and the damage of Ephestia cautella Walker and TrQgoderma granariurn Everts and effect of damage on gernrlnation of wbeat seeds was studied. The following conclusions were drawn: (I) Germination was not impaired in seeds treated with clay. Moreover, 0.1 per cent level of AC ill (activated H. kaolinite), AC IV (activated conditioned kaolin) and AC vn (partially activated Ca kaolin-tale formulations) Indicated good effect on genninatlon. (2) The damage caused by T. granor/urn affected the germination of seed treated with AC V (activated Ca kaolin) and AC VI (pardally activated kaolin-tale fonnulations) at levels of 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 per cent and seeds treated with AC vn at 0.3 per cent level, 25 days after releasing larvae in lreated seeds. Whereas, nonnal germination was significantly reduM In seed treated with AC 1II and AC IV at 0.3, 0.5 lUId 1.0 per cent levels, 30 days after releasing larvae. (3) AC III and AC IV at 1.5 per cent could be used to protect seeds of wheat against the Infestation of T. granarium. (4) In seed treated witb AC VII and AC V at 1.5 per cent level normal germination was not affected due to damage caused by E. cautella. This was also observed in seed treated with AC m and AC IV at 1.0 per cent level. Significantly poor germination was recorded in seed treated with AC V at 0.3, O.S and 1.0 per cent levels. In seed treated with AC VI at aU levels, QorIDal germihation was significantly alfected due to damage caused by the developing larvae of E. cautella.
