Abstract
Changes in the carbohydrate components of the seedlings of S. grandiftora Pers. during germination for 96 hr in the dark at roon'l temperature (24-28°C.) have been studied. A noteworthy change observed is the increase in sucrose content of the seedlings. The polysaccharides present in the tegmen have been shown to be the main source of carbohydrates for the synthesis of sucrose. The main polysaccharide present in the tegmen is of the nature of a galactomannan.
