Abstract
Two methods (A and B), developed for the determination of sorbic acid in trace amounts (0.2-10 μg/m1), are applicable to a large variety of food samples. The analytical reactions in both the methods A and B are stoichiometric oxidations, with an excess of N-bromosuccinimide (method A) or potassium permanganate (method B). The excess oxidant is then measured colorimetrically by reaction with metol-sulphanilamide (method A) or fast green FCF, an oxidizable dye (method B).
