Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: This report gives an overview of the controlled atmosphere storage of fruits and vegetables for extending their shelf life. Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Storage is defined as, a low O2 and/or high CO2 atmosphere created by natural respiration or artificial means, controlled by a sequence of measurements and corrections throughout the storage period. System may be designed which utilize flushing N2 initially to reduce the O2 content then either injecting CO2 or allowing it to build up through respiration, and then the maintenance of this atmosphere by adsorption or absorption. Controlled Atmosphere Storage technique is used for preservation of fresh produce not only by maintaining the O2 & CO2 gas levels, but also with control of Temperature & Relative Humidity (RH) and removal of Ethylene (C2H4).
